Employability and Career Development For Youth (ECD)

The ECD is focused on enhancing youth employability in Nigeria. ECD partners with recruiters/employers to link job seekers with appropriate opportunities. The programme works with young people between the ages of 15-25 and provides them with information, skills, connections and mentors to successfully navigate competitive work environments. ECD operates a database of graduates and NYSC Core members that it has trained to become interns in public, private and non-prot organizations.

Career development activities include:

  • WORK READY, TECH READY:

Work Ready Tech Ready is a multi-sectoral employability project designed to provide tech-focused employability skills to young higher education graduates. The project will adequately equip them with marketable skills sought by employers. Work Ready, Tech Ready will be delivered in collaboration with Entrepreneurship Centers of selected Universities in Nigeria.

This is a highly interactive and enlightening boot camp designed for people interested in pursuing careers in the social sector. The project will provide practical insights and skills on how to achieve social impact while building a lucrative career. Facilitators will be drawn from development organisations and non-prots in Nigeria.

  • ENTRY LEVEL JOB-FAIR:

The “FISD Entry Level Job Fair” is an employability focused platform that provides opportunities for university students, recent graduates and National Youth Corps Members to be linked with recruiters and employers of labour, with the aim of providing these three core beneficiaries with relevant skills, networks and competencies on available job/economic opportunities and how to thrive in them. In accordance to the sustainable development goal 8 ‘Decent Work & Economic Growth’, this project aims at equipping youth with varied skills that will promote inclusive and sustainable economic growth, productive employment and decent work for beneficiaries.

  • CV-CLINIC & MOCK INTERVIEW:

In a bid to promote equal opportunity and job development for youth, FISD has developed the Cv Clinic and Mock Interview workshop
Research has also shown that 65% of Nigerian graduates who are willing and able to work are unable to access job opportunities due to the lack of experience and relevant employability skills. Following FISD’s first annual Entry-level Job fair which took place on the 27th & 28th June, 2019, it was found that about 73% of entry level job applicants in attendance were unemployed due to their Cvs and their inability to effectively respond to interview questions. Based on feedback from hiring managers at the job fair, FISD in a bid to promote equal opportunity and job development for youth has developed the Cv Clinic and Mock Interview workshop, to help entry level job applicants overcome these challenges
